Welcome to Buttercups Chalfont Park. We are an Ofsted Outstanding nursery based in the historic Chalfont Park Estate. Our high standards of care, highly qualified staff and our commitment to education have made us the exceptional nursery we are today.
Our Nursery Head Teacher, Sam, has been working in childcare for 18 years and in a management capacity for the last 12 years. She studied Early Years Development and Teaching to university level and continues to further her learning wherever possible. Sam loves working with children and is passionate about Early Years Education.
Historic Setting
Chalfont Park is steeped in history. The house and gardens, which stretch for 138 hectares, were started by Charles Churchill in 1755. Buttercups Nursery occupies the Orangery and Lodge, two beautiful buildings added to the estate by Edwin Lutyens in 1910. Now a third building, the Pavilion, has been restored and extended to provide a light and airy preschool building.
Great Team
Our qualified, caring team members receive ongoing training, both on and off-site. This nurturing and development continues throughout their time with us, inspiring the level of care and education your child receives. All children are allocated a key-person when they start, someone who is committed to their well-being. We have a gentle settling-in process as we know that some children find it harder to adjust than others.
Child-centred Care
Our light and airy, newly refurbished Orangery is the home of our babies and under 2s, with two rooms catering for sensory exploration, physical development, role play and messy activities. It has a separate cosy sleep room where children can sleep undisturbed during the day and direct access to a large outdoor space with shelter and resources to allow for outdoor play all year round.
In the Lodge our 2-3 year olds enjoy 4 large play rooms dedicated to a selection of learning aspects including a separate Montessori classroom. The Lodge has direct access to 2 large, secure outdoor play areas, giving our children plenty of space to play outside.
Our Montessori Approach
The Pavilion is the new home of our preschoolers. This beautiful renovation has been specifically designed by the architects to meet the needs of our children, with everything at their height, separate areas for different activities and flooded with natural light. Within it, our Qualified Montessori teachers use focussed Montessori sessions to give children the best start possible. At the end of their time with us, Buttercups children leave with confidence, curiosity and a zest for learning. Read more about Montessori at Buttercups
Gardens and Forest School
Undoubtedly, the best spaces at the nursery are our fantastic gardens. Our huge, newly renovated Pavilion Garden is a feast for the senses. There are hills to climb, tunnels to crawl through, roads to scoot around, a mud kitchen, vegetable patch and an outdoor theatre. There’s also a large pirate ship to explore! As well as the garden, all children over 2 years enjoy time in Forest School, a natural, wooded space where our qualified Forest School Leader guides them in using tools, building camps and exploring nature.
